Second Meeting of The Belarus Task Force

On 7 – 9 March ’08 in Warsaw the Belarus Task Force (BTF) hold its second meeting. The BTF is an international initiative for developing a strategy toward Belarus’ undemocratic regime. The first inauguration meeting of BTF was hold earlier in Vilnius on 8-9 December, 2007.

BTF’s Warsaw meeting was organized by “Amicus Europae Foundation” and Hungarian’s “International Centre for Democratic Transition”.

The Belarus Task Force consists of prominent figures from Central and Eastern Europe: former head of states and politicians, members of parliaments, experts. The BTF’s Chairman is Mr. Aleksander Kwasniewski, former President of Poland (1995-2005) and among its most prominent members are Emil Constantinescu (f. President of Romania), Borys Tarasyuk (f. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine), Nadezhda Mihaylova (f. MoFA of Bulgaria), Antanas Valionis (f. MoFA of Lithuania), Janusz Onyszkiewicz (Member of the European Parliament)

During the Warsaw meeting, members of BTF discussed on various political instruments and mechanisms regarding the new proposed international strategy toward Belarus. Participants of BTF meeting were also presented with broad analytical assessment on situation in- and around Belarus, provided by experts from Poland (Pawel Wolowski from the “Centre of Eastern Studies” and Grzegorz Gromadzki from the “Batory Foundation”) and European Union (Pirkka Tapiola from the European Council).

Members of the Belarus Task Force met also with Mr. Radoslaw Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affaires of Poland.
