According to the opinion prevailing in Poland, the tragic crash of the Polish plane with a state delegation near Katyn on 10th April 2010, may paradoxically – against all the evil it brought about – become the prologue to a new chapter in the Polish-Russian relations. Nevertheless, it is worth considering to what extent even the most positive emotional stimuli are able to outweigh the rough geopolitical interests and circumstances that for centuries have been determining the Russia’s approach and policy towards the region of Central and Eastern Europe, including – in particular – Poland.
